Certficate Courses:
Certificate of Higher Education in Christian Theology - CertHE

Who is it for?

The Certificate course is primarily the first year of the three year degree course awarded by Anglia Ruskin University. The first year modules will therefore be taken by independent students and ordinands studying for two and three years.

Three-year students who have completed the BA (Tripos) degree usually take the Certificate in their third and final year. It enables them to study subjects considered crucial for ordained ministry which they have not been able to cover through the BA. The modules may be taken from any of the degree modules, and the award will be for the accumulation of the required number of credits (120). The Certificate may also be undertaken by those who come to Ridley as Theology graduates, often combining this with the MA in Pastoral Theology.

Independent students who wish to do an introductory one-year theological course also study for the Certificate. If they wish to undertake a further year's study, they can progress to the Diploma or BA in Christian Theology.

The CertHE can be taken with a focused pathway concentrating on mission and evangelism studies.

Who awards it?

The Certificate of Higher Education (CertHE) in Christian Theology is awarded by Anglia Ruskin University (ARU). It is one of a number of awards making use of the extensive set of modules validated by ARU and taught by the CTF.

Entry requirements

Many students who do these courses have degrees in other subjects, but they may also be successfully undertaken by students without degree or A levels. When we consider your application we look for evidence of your ability to benefit from, and meet the demands of, the course.

Length of Study

The Certificate takes one year full-time or two years or more part-time.

Who Teaches it?

The Certificate offers a rich variety of subjects taught by a wide range of teachers. Many subjects are team-taught by a group of teachers from across the Federation, but some draw on the talents of people with expertise from outside the Federation.
