Ridley Hall: specific funds

The Annual Fund

Download more information on the Annual FundThis year marks the launch of the Ridley Hall Annual Fund. The Fund has been created to meet immediate expenditure incurred on a yearly basis in maintaining and improving both the College’s physical environment and its ability to offer first-class teaching and study resources. To achieve this, the College has to rely on the generosity of its alumni and friends—it receives, for example, only a small contribution towards buildings maintenance from the Church of England, so that any enhancements must be funded through voluntary income. Every gift counts; the aggregation of individual donations, no matter how small, can create an impact that makes a significant difference, and can assist the College in planning confidently for the future. Key areas of College life that might benefit from the Fund include: teaching, IT facilities, the library, buildings and grounds, support services and the chapel. Priorities will vary annually, reflecting changing needs within the College. Projects that the Annual Fund will contribute to during 2011 include the upgrading of the heating in G and H staircases to bring the building up to modern standards.

The New Building

Ridley Hall was originally built to accommodate a community of around 30 young male graduates of the Cambridge colleges; today around 140 students—men and women, ordinands, independents and youth work trainees—study, work and live in these same buildings. Ridley is flourishing, but it is alreadystretched well beyond its intended capacity. The planned new building, which will be Ridley’s largest physical development in a century, will create a spacious auditorium and commons area as well as providing much-needed extra residential, teaching and administrative facilities. It will be built on the site of the old Principal’s Garden, and will form a fitting complement to Ridley’s existing facilities, echoing and blending with the older buildings. When completed, the new building will add 2,272 square metres of space, or almost 24,500 square feet, and will equip Ridley to meet the demands of the coming decades, ensuring that its ministry continues to grow and develop well into the 21st century.

Student Bursaries

The Student Bursaries (Home/EU) Fund aims to subsidize educational and living costs for those undergoing ministerial training. Additionally, there has been a steady flow of overseas students to Ridley in recent decades, and the College remains committed to international engagement. The Student Bursaries (Overseas) Fund will be used to assist young Church leaders and those studying for ministry from overseas to come to Cambridge to study at Ridley.

More about giving:

The Rt Revd Richard Chatres, Bishop of LondonIf you are concerned about the moral compass, and if you have a sense of the potential of the Christian community to emerge from 40 years of introversion, to re-engage with the people of this country, then I suggest you couldn't do better than to subscribe to the Ridley appeal.
