Applying to Ridley: Interview Days

When can I come for interview?

Our interview days are always in University term time and always on a Thursday (but not every Thursday).

We advise prospective ordinands not to wait until after their selection conference before requesting an interview at Ridley - we are happy to interview you as soon as you have a date for your conference. Before we can confirm an interview date we will need the relevant completed application for interview form from you (see application forms page of website).

We are happy to interview prospective independent students as soon as we have received satisfactory references.

Can my partner visit too?

Spouses are also very welcome to attend and will be invited to join the interview sessions too.

Thursday has quite a community feel to it because it is also 'Partners day' when spouses of students come in (often with their younger children) to meet up in the morning and stay over for lunch in the dining hall. This means that if your spouse accompanies you there will be an opportunity for him/her to meet up with other partners and find out about life at Ridley from their perspective. If you are engaged to be married, your fiancé(e) would be very welcome to join you for the day.

What happens on Interview Days?

You are asked to arrive at around 12.45 pm, in time for lunch in the dining hall at 1pm (you will be allocated a student host to take you in to lunch and look after you between interviews during the afternoon).

At 1.40pm there is a group session in the Principal's study (with several other members of academic staff present) when we try to give you an overview of life, study and worship at Ridley. At 2.20 applicants split up and go for their individual interviews, of which there are three - one academic, one pastoral and one with the Principal. These last for 25 minutes each (there may be gaps between interviews depending on number of applicants that day and staff available). Spouses are also very welcome to sit in on the interviews.

At 4pm there is a break for Common Room Tea, which gives another opportunity to meet current students and ask them questions.

Once your interviews are finished you are free to leave - however all applicants are warmly invited to stay on for College Communion and supper in the evening if they wish - if you did stay on for this you would be departing at around 8pm. We can offer you accommodation for the night if needed (subject to availability).

Is there a dress code for interview days?

No there isn't - smart-casual is what most people seem to opt for - but it varies from jeans to a suit! Come dressed in what you feel most comfortable.
