Canon Andrew White Honoured

We congratulate the Revd Canon Andrew White, who has been given the 2014 William Wilberforce Award by the Chuck Colson Center, an American evangelical think-tank.

 

Canon Andrew WhiteKnown as the "Vicar of Baghdad", Canon White was honoured for his "extraordinary strides in reconciliation and restoration in the face of overwhelming challenges".  The Center cited his work in building "a positive relationship with the government and people of Iraq on every level, from grassroots to the business community to the military. Located in the city's Red Zone, his church serves 6,000 Iraqi citizens each week — a stunning number for a country with a 97% Muslim population."

Canon White trained at Ridley from 1986 to 1990 and visited the College last year, inspiring the community with the testimony of his life and ministry.  Read more in the Autumn 2013 issue of News from Ridley.
