The Reverend Canon Dr Adrian Chatfield
Adrian is Director of the Simeon Centre for Prayer and the Spiritual Life, and Tutor in Christian Life and Thought. He is part of the Fresh Expressions national team with a responsibility for prayer and spirituality, and is currently working closely with Dave Male, Director of the Centre for Pioneer Learning in the development of the Centre’s programmes.
Adrian was born in Trinidad, and brought up there and in Brazil. After training for ministry at the College of the Resurrection in Mirfield, he worked in parish ministry for 15 years in Trinidad and Devon. For the last 19 years, he has been a theological educator in Nottingham, Johannesburg and Oxford, while continuing in non-stipendiary parish ministry. He is married to Jill, with 2 children, 4 granddaughters, and a passion for cycling, running and hill walking.
Adrian has written many distance learning programmes, and authored Something in Common, an introduction to Anglicanism, available in Spanish, Portuguese and Swahili. It is currently being translated into French and Korean. He acted as Consultant to the Editor of The Anglican Communion and Homosexuality, produced as a resource for the 2008 Lambeth Conference. He contributed two chapters to the BRF 2011 publication Pioneers 4 Life, and is working on a distance learning History of Christianity from the 17th to the 19th centuries.
He maintains contact with the African context as External Examiner for the Theological Education by Extension College in Johannesburg, and acts as Commissary for the Diocese of Christ the King in Southern Gauteng.
