Exploring other callings in lay ministry

Lay ministry in other contexts

Ridley Lay Ministry (RLM) students specialising in youth, children & families or lay pioneer ministry may work in a variety of locations, some of which could be associated with other callings.

For example, we currently have RLM students specialising in youth and children and family ministry who live out their calling in schools ministry or school chaplaincy. We also have pioneer ministers working with international students and in prison chaplaincy.

This represents the unique nature of RLM training, which has been designed to support you in your particular calling, rather than boxing you into an abstract area of calling.

Talk to us about your calling

Talk to us about your calling

If you wish to study with RLM and you are not sure whether you fit within our named specialisms of youth, children's and family, or pioneer ministry, please contact Robin Barden (the Dean of Lay Ministry) in the first instance. Robin would be happy to have a conversation with you to answer any queries you may have and to discuss how the course could support you.

There are three main ways in which your course can support your calling: through your studies, through your chosen context for ministerial practice and through your theological reflection group.

Opportunities to specialise through your studies

Opportunities to specialise through your studies

All students at Ridley Hall undertake in-depth study in Biblical Studies, Christian Tradition, Ministry and Mission, and Theological Reflection and Reflective Practice. Specific modules undertaken by RLM students include Bible in Context, Discipleship, Pastoral Care, Management, and Leadership. Robin would be happy to discuss which specialist modules would be most appropriate to you and what research topic you may wish to engage with at level 6.

Ministerial context and theological reflection for your calling

Ministerial context and theological reflection for your calling

A key element of an RLM student’s learning takes place in ongoing ministerial practice and within theological reflection groups. Robin would be happy to discuss what kind of ministerial context would support your particular calling and which theological reflection group you would be best suited to.
