Principal moving to new 'mega-diocese'
The Revd Canon Andrew Norman, Principal of Ridley Hall, has been appointed to the new post of Director of Ministry and Mission in the Diocese of Leeds.
The Diocese of Leeds was formed in 2014 by merging three dioceses in West Yorkshire. Andrew will help the diocese develop an integrated approach to mission and ministry across its varied urban and rural parishes. He will lead a core team who oversee church growth, clergy training, community work, vocations, and work with children and young people.
“The next few years will be crucial for the Church of England, as it prays and works for the renewal of its life and witness,’ Andrew says. ‘After eight years focussed on equipping the next generation of clergy and youth workers, I am excited about nurturing mission and ministry in a diocese which has a rich variety of contexts. I shall miss being at Ridley Hall, but helping realise the potential of this newly formed ‘mega-diocese’ is an inspiring prospect!”
The Bishop of Leeds, Nick Baines, says “I am more than delighted that Andrew Norman is coming north to help develop this diocese, bringing experience, expertise and theologically informed passion to the task. He is joining a motivated team in Leeds and will bring unique skills to this stage of our mission and ministry.”
Andrew will take up this appointment in January. “As Chair of Ridley Hall Trustees, I’d like to offer my warm congratulations to Andrew and heartfelt thanks for all he has contributed as Principal” says Bishop David Urquhart. “This is an exciting time to be helping a diocese rise to the challenges of mission and ministry. We wish him every blessing when he begins this new phase of his ministry in the New Year.”
