Job Summary
Ridley Hall is seeking to appoint a Tutor in practical theology, to deliver teaching on theological reflection and pastoral care primarily, to oversee the ordinand’s formation programme, and to contribute to the wider life of the College. This is a time-limited post to cover a secondment for two years, to take up post from September 2025 or as soon as possible thereafter. The integration of all aspects of training is key to the ethos of Ridley Hall, with a strong focus on the formation of the entire person for discipleship and ministry. We are looking for applicants with relevant practical and/or academic experience, to help prepare students for a changing church and world. Tutors play a key role in Ridley Hall’s work preparing candidates for both lay and ordained ministry. They deliver assessed modules via the Common Awards programme and Cambridge University, but also contribute to wider formation through involvement in key aspects of the life of the College. The role holder will teach on the breadth of courses offered by the College, for students preparing for lay and ordained ministry alike. They will also oversee the ordinand formational programme, Emmaus, which offers a weekly set of lectures, workshops and quiet morning exploring aspects of ministry and leadership in the Church of England. This particular post comes with an expectation that the role holder will be Formation Tutor to an Emmaus Journey Group; acting as formational support for individuals training for ordained ministry in the Church of England. The post holder would also contribute to the worship life of the College through participation in daily prayer and contribution to weekly services. The post is for a limited period as it provides cover for a member of staff seconded to another project.
