Student Fees Explained

Studying involves a range of costs. The fees below explain what you may need to pay at Ridley Hall. Not every fee applies to every student, so please read the relevant sections carefully.

For ordinands: your diocese pays the college directly for the majority of your fees. You remain responsible for a small college fee and the student common room fee.

Tuition fee (all students)

The tuition fee covers the core teaching provided for your qualification. For ordinands, this is paid by the Church of England.

Maintenance fee (independent students living in college)

If you are an independent student and wish to live in college, a maintenance fee will be agreed with you following consultation about your requirements. This normally covers accommodation and meals during term time.

Placement fee (Ridley Lay Ministry students)

Ridley Lay Ministry students pay a placement fee covering accommodation and meals during the block-teaching weeks they are required to attend throughout the academic year.

College fee (all students)

For ordinands

The college fee is a small contribution towards costs that are not covered by tuition fees or maintenance grants. These include electrical safety testing of appliances (PAT testing) and access to Cambridge University Wi-Fi.

The fee is reviewed annually and kept as low as reasonably possible, although it may increase to reflect inflation and rising running costs.

If you are experiencing financial difficulties and would struggle to pay, please speak to your Formation Tutor in the first instance.

For independent students

The college fee contributes towards educational, learning support, domestic and pastoral services that are not covered by tuition or maintenance fees. This includes access to chaplaincy and worship at Ridley Hall.

Formation fee (independent students training for ministry)

Eligible independent students may choose to join Ridley Hall’s formation programme alongside their academic course. The programme helps prepare students for practical ministry in the local church and carries an additional formation fee.

The programme is available only to students training for ministry within their denomination. Applicants must have a clear recommendation from their denomination, and appropriate references and supporting documents will be requested during the application process.
