Our supervisors are shaping academic theological discourse whilst remaining deeply rooted in Christian ministry and cultural engagement.
Our PhD programme is delivered in partnership with trusted awarding bodies, including the University of Cambridge, Durham University, and Anglia Ruskin University.
We can work with you to find the right awarding body, one that suits both your aspirations and your academic history.
Depending on the requirements of the validating university, and taking your preference into account, our PhD programmes may be undertaken full-time or part-time, in residence or at a distance.

The books of Judges, Ruth and Job; Narrative in the Hebrew Scriptures; Trauma, in particular collective trauma; How Scripture works in the life of the church; Otherness, identity and violence, mental health, justice.

Before Applying, You Should Know
Thank you for your interest in PhD study at Ridley Hall. This is a rigorous academic programme shaped by Ridley’s commitment to theological depth, spiritual formation, and the mission of the Church.
Applicants are normally expected to hold a relevant Master’s degree (merit or above) and must submit a 1,500-word research proposal with this form. Your proposal should outline a clear research question, relevant literature, methodology, and the potential contribution of your work.
PhD supervision is offered in partnership with the University of Cambridge, Durham University, or Anglia Ruskin University—subject to eligibility and supervisor availability.
We encourage early contact with a Ridley-based supervisor aligned with your research area. Both full-time and part-time pathways are available.
