Ridley Hall's vision and values

"Our vision and passion is to be a Christ-centred community where people are formed by the Holy Spirit" Revd Dr Michael B. Thompson, Associate Principal of Ridley Hall

God calls us together at Ridley Hall to grow in wisdom in order to proclaim Jesus Christ.

The college exists to enable lay and ordained leaders from a wide range of Christian traditions to contribute wisely to the renewal of the Church and to the well-being of society.

We long to see people reconciled to God and inspired by their faith. We want to see neglected neighbourhoods redeemed and communities restored. And we seek all of this so that Jesus’ transforming gospel of justice, freedom, and new life can reach every corner of the earth.

Our approach to training

Those who train at Ridley are sent out to share the transforming love of Jesus with individuals, neighbourhoods and communities.

They are able to do this with confidence because during their time at Ridley our students participate in transforming worship that sustains the soul and they immerse themselves in theological study that is rooted in the collaborative practice of ministry.

When theological training is approached like this, it ignites the heart and empowers the whole person to serve Jesus Christ.

"I've been involved with Ridley for 40 years, and the diversity of what happens here never ceases to amaze me." Revd Canon Fred Kilner, Trustee (Ridley 1967–70)
Our vision for the future

Guided by the Holy Spirit, Ridley Hall continues to change and grow. We believe that God is calling us to become a beacon of Christian learning and formation; to invest in our beautiful site and buildings in order to provide a warm, safe and comfortable home for our growing community of lay and ordained students; and to ensure that Ridley Hall is able to weather the changes of the future.

Our values

We value our open-evangelical heritage and our long history of commitment to training lay and ordained leaders side by side. We value excellence in teaching and learning and, to that end, we celebrate our active relationships within the Cambridge Theological Federation and with the staff of the Divinity Faculty of Cambridge University.

We value our daily rhythm of prayer and worship, shared meals and having fun together. We value our location in the heart of this historic university city, and the beautiful site and buildings in which we live, learn, eat and worship.

We value the body of Christ and are wholeheartedly committed to serving the mission of God in the world by forming people for a lifetime of loving service in the power of the Spirit.
